Marijuana Expert Cheryl Shuman created a marijuana dispensary on set complete with vaporizers, cannabis, edibles, tinctures and more, this series launches a first in the Cannabis Reform movement.

Cannabis is being taken seriously by the mainstream and is set to skyrocket in to the topic of practically every conversation.  The Wilfred Collective set will be displayed exclusively at the West Coast Cannabis Expo and raffled off for charity to visitors.

Senator John Vasconsellos
California

Vasconcellos comes from Portuguese (paternal) and German (maternal) roots. He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory and Santa Clara University. After graduating magna cum laude and valedictorian of his class from Santa Clara, Vasconcellos spent two years as a lieutenant in the United States Army, serving in West Germany. Upon his return, he reenrolled in SCU, obtaining a law degree in 1959. He joined the law firm of Ruffo & Chadwick; after a year, he joined the staff of Governor Pat Brown for one year before returning to the firm.

In 1966, Vasconcellos ran for a seat in the California State Assembly; he took office in 1967. By 1980 he was one of the longest serving members of the Assembly, second only to Speaker Willie Brown. Due to the Assembly's policy of awarding leadership positions based on seniority, he became the chairman of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, one of the most powerful assignments in the California Legislature. Vasconcellos proposed the State Task Force to Promote Self-Esteem in October 1986. In 1989, Brown appointed Vasconcellos to chair the Select Assembly Committee on Ethics. Vasconcellos held the positions until he was forced out of the Assembly in 1996 by term limits.

He then ran for, and won, a seat in the California State Senate, again representing Silicon Valley. In the State Senate, he chaired the Public Safety, Education, and Economic Development committees. Vasconcellos served two terms in the State Senate, again limited by term limits.

In March 2004, Vasconcellos introduced Senate Bill 1606, known as Training Wheels for Citizenship, which would allow people 14 or older to vote. The votes of 14- and 15-year-olds would count as a quarter of a vote, and of 16- and 17-year-olds a half. The National Youth Rights Association supported the bill, but Republican legislators criticized it. Bob Stern, president of the Center for Governmental Studies, compared this bill's fractional vote to the policy of the Three-Fifths Compromise, which gave slaves three-fifths representation in the early history of the U.S. Vasconcellos abandoned the bill after it fell one vote short in the final committee.

After representing the Silicon Valley for 38 years in the California Legislature, Vasconcellos retired on November 30, 2004. In order to carry forward the vision and leadership of Vasconcellos' politics, friends and colleagues created The Vasconcellos Project. As its first initiative, The Vasconcellos Project launched the Politics of Trust Network (PTN), a civic engagement enterprise that seeks to become a prime mover in advancing this new vision and practice of politics.

Vasconcellos gave his whole being into his work as a legislator, eventually becoming the longest elected state legislator in California history. His love of public education and his work on the state budget during both his Assembly and Senate careers did as much, if not more, as any legislator in improving the quality of life, health and education for California's citizenry.

Lynnette Shaw
Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana

Well known throughout California, Lynnette Shaw has been interviewed on most major television stations, radio and newspapers across the country and the UK. Her reputation as a fearless fighter for patient protection, being a stalwart negotiator, a longtime hemp educator and having a positive relationship with world class media, caused the Libertarian Party to draft her as a Candidate to run for LT. Governor of California. Wille Nelson endorsed her platform of Marijuana Peace, and nearly 150,000 votes were cast for her in 2006. Lynnette has since joined the Democrats in support of Obama.

Here is her background: Lynnette, a union musician since 1976, went to Hollywood in 1979 where she was discovered by John Belushi in 1981 and hired to sing and dance with Jake and Elwood. She barely survived a major nervous breakdown when Belushi died in 1982, 6 days before her world-class contract was to be signed. Suffering from PTSD and several other problems, she moved to Marin County to recover, in 1984. Lynnette discovered that she was allergic to nearly every medication prescribed for her various illnesses, and turned to cannabis for relief. Dr. Tod Mikuriya, the founder of the modern medical cannabis movement for physicians, diagnosed and treated her for many years.

After being physically abused by police in the East Bay when arrested for marijuana possession in 1990, she served 80 days in Contra Costa County jail. This prompted her to join the hemp and medical marijuana movement that same year. Dr. Tod Mikuriya, the founder of the modern medical cannabis movement for physicians, diagnosed and treated her for many years. Lynnette was hired by Dennis Peron in 1991 to work at the very first medical marijuana club in San Francisco, as an intake counselor. As a support person and social worker, she has personally worked with an estimated 20,000+ patients since then.

With the help of then-Sup. Gary Giacomini, Lynnette co-wrote the pioneer Marin Medical Marijuana Ordinance # 3109 in 1992, making world news again when it was adopted unanimously by the Board of Supervisors The law requires the sheriffs to make medical marijuana their lowest priority and it cut the anti-pot budget when it came to medical users. Marin County Supervisors appointed her to several advisory boards in the early 90s that she later resigned when she acquired her license to sell medical marijuana. Lynnette was appointed by the Marin Court to be a volunteer Adult Probation Community Service Worker Supervisor in 1992, a position she still serves, and is a member of L.E.A.P. (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition). While running Jack Herer's H.E.M.P. office in 1994 (on loan from Dennis Peron), educating hemp petitioners and stirring crowds with impassioned speeches, she was trained by Dennis and Jack to be a national spokesperson for both the hemp and medical marijuana movements. She was sent to lobby in Sacramento for medical cannabis law changes, and garnered supportive major media coverage for the issue.

Having been front page news with her sensible advocacy for years, Lynnette, a member of the Prop.215 think tank that developed the measure, helped Marin residents "get the message" in the statewide 1996 vote for Prop. 215. Marin County came in #2 statewide with 74 % Yes for legal medical marijuana, second only to San Francisco.

Because of the trust and support of the community and Town of Fairfax (89 % Yes on 215), then-Fairfax Chief of Police Jim Anderson developed a unique permit to sell not- for- profit medical marijuana that he sponsored through the Planning Commission process in 1997. This helped the patient community stabilize medically, and no longer be so afraid, since the MAMM has always provided free legal defense to protect their qualified members. Suddenly it turned into a courtroom circus when the (former) Marin County DA decided to go after medical pot users, on a jihad to overturn Prop 215, that same year.

After 18 months of incessant raids targeting cannabis using patients, in 1999 Ms. Shaw yet again made world news when she helped recall the Marin County DA over legal medical users repeatedly being busted. This brought her a lot of personal grief, but the patients stopped getting arrested, so she endured all the threats and disrespect, in order to secure the safety of the medical marijuana community in Marin.

In early 2002, Lynnette sent in a mediator to negotiate a type of Medical Marijuana Peace Treaty that the law enforcment community agreed to, in writing. The policy change that eventually came as a result of all the controversy, also saved Marin County millions of tax dollars, by finally stopping the excessive arrests and failed prosecutions of qualified medical cannabis patients. The MAMM legal team won all their cases, about 50 of them, and had considered filing a discrimination lawsuit, but opted for negotiations instead, in the spirit of Marijuana Peace.

Fairfax allowed the only medical cannabis club in California for 9 years that actually was licensed and permitted by municipal law. It was a historic breathrough for compassion. Now there are several others in the State. As envisioned by Lynnette, the Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana (AKA Cannabis Buyers' Club Marin) is a working model of long term Marijuana Peace. Lynnette's dispensary has contractual protection by local police and is the longest standing, licensed medical marijuana club in the nation. The Marin Alliance never violated any of their 84 rules since 1997, and subsequently was allowed a few less rules and a regulated delivery system in 2010.
